Wood pole, exposed to varying environmental conditions, thus susceptible to a variety of destroying organisms

The competence of our accredited group lies in the area of the interface between material and environment. The activities are aligned to the promotion of security and reliability of materials under biogenic impact. Paramount goal is to improve the environmental compatibility of necessary preventive measures. The work area covers above all the efficacy assessment of material preservatives, the estimation of material resistance to microbial attack, the characterization of relevant organisms with molecular biological methods as well as the investigation of the emission of biocides into water and soil. In particular the interaction of organisms (microbes, fungi and insects) with materials and coatings of wood, synthetics or textiles, but also with liquids such as paints, lubricants or drinking water is examined. Classical and modern biocides are checked with regard to their protective effect; the relevant test methods are worked out and optimised.

The division provides state of the art test and analysis techniques and cultures the economically most important destructive organisms.
