Numerical Container Analysis

Our competence is numerical analysis of the behaviour of components and containers for transport and intermediate and final storage of radioactive materials under operational and accident conditions. Our competence covers

numerical stress analysis,
numerical investigation of crack-like material defects under impact loads,
realistic finite element simulation of the behaviour of complex container structures under mechanical and thermal loads.

Key areas

Checking and evaluation of numerical calculations in safety analysis reports
Investigation of the mechanical behaviour of containers in the case of an impact onto so-called unyielding foundations (IAEA targets) and final storage and building or storage hall foundations
Investigation of the behaviour of containers under the impact of a fire
Analysis of safety margins under accident conditions such as an aircraft crash
Development and validation of finite element models by comparison with experimental findings (from small specimens to large containers)
Contributing to planning tests and interpreting test results
Carrying out research projects into, among others, the development of numerical methods for analyzing impact limiters subjected to impact or drop scenarios (ENREA), sponsored by BMBF under contract no. 02S8588
