This division is engaged in ensuring and improving levels of safety protection of storing, handling and transporting dangerous goods in tanks and pressure vessels.
The tasks relate to guaranteeing safety and reliability in chemical and engineering, in particular in handling dangerous goods, and are connected with the responsibilities of the Federal Government to protect the public adequately, from the risk to life and property. It is the only competent authority in the Federal Republic of Germany which gives technical guidance in respect of regulations covering the transport of dangerous goods and which advises the German Government in formulating technical legislation and standards at national and international levels. Accordingly, they are part of the principal tasks of BAM.
Evaluation criteria are developed supporting on the one hand the legislative bodies and on the other hand assisting industry in developing uniform and binding practices. For this, the results of our work are made utilised and open to the public (see the so-called BAM-List).
