We are engaged in ensuring and improving the levels of safety for the shipment and handling of dangerous goods in packaged form.
The division is the German national authority for the testing, approval and quality control of all types of dangerous goods packagings. It recognises competent and neutral bodies for the execution of testing, inspection and auditing, organizes exchangeof experience and promotes the uniform application of respective regulations.
It supports the Federal Government in implementing and updating the international and national dangerous goods regulations and standards and performs related research and development work.
Information concerning the transport of dangerous goods is provided, e.g. by means of the database GEFAHRGUT, which is part of the Federal German information system of hazardous materials and dangerous goods. Data and applications using this data are used by the public and business to plan, conduct and supervise the transport of dangerous goods in compliance with the regulations.
Finally, information on different aspects of technical and public safety is provided by this division.
