Division 2.3
The division undertakes BAM's activities as the Notified Body for the EU Conformity assessment procedure for explosives and pyrotechnics. It has also responsibility as the approving authority for blasting accessories under the Explosives Act. It is responsible for approvals of pyrotechnical ammunition under the Weapons Act and for the approval of transfers of explosives. The division tests, investigates, classifies and gives expert advice about explosive substances, explosive articles and pyrotechnics. It assesses manufacturing, processing, transportation, storage, use, and disposal procedures in respect of the relevant regulations on behalf of authorities, institutions, and the industry.
The above enlisted tasks are distributed between two working goups: one group deals with blasting explosives and propellants, and an other group covers all issues relating to pyrotechnics. For the plant safety for explosives a working group has been established. The output of the entire division is reflected partly in the official publication lists of approvals and classifications (see below).
