Plant Safety for Explosives

The working group undertakes responsibilities in the area of the safety of facilities for handling explosives and ammunition. The members of the working group act in their advisory and expert capacity on behalf of authorities, institutions and industrial companies.

Main working subjects

• Risk assessment and survey of 
  • depots for explosives and pyrotechnics
  • safety analyses for facilities requiring official approval according to No. 9.35 and 10.1 of the 4th Federal Immission Control Law
  • procedures for the production, treatment, disposal and storage of explosives and of articles containing explosives
• Accident enquiry
• Tests of the explosion resistance of construction components of buildings

Another task is the investigation of approved explosives, pyrotechnics and blasting accessories, which are suspected of having faults. To perform this task the working group is independent in its organisation and personnel of the other working groups of the division, which are responsible for granting approvals and assessing the EU-conformity.
