Working group

Blasting Explosives, Propellants

The working group performs tasks according to the Explosives Act (SprengG), according to the regulations for the transport of dangerous goods, and is one of fourteen notified bodies of the European community for the EU-conformity assessment of explosives (CE-marking) in accordance with European Directive 93/15/EEC.

The main fields of work are:

BAM Test Site Technical Safety in Horstwalde, south of Berlin, for tests up to a TNT-equivalent of 150 kg

Within an EU-conformity assessment blasting explosives and propellants are investigated on their safe functioning and on reliable ignition. Also included is testing of the properties of the blasting explosives and propellants under various extreme conditions (temperature, pressure, humidity), the composition analysis, and the testing of electrical parameters of igniting devices and blasting accessories. The CE-mark is valid throughout the entire European community.
The working group operates a test bunker which can be used with explosives up to a TNT equivalent of 1 kg. Tests with larger amounts of explosives are performed at the BAM Test Site Technical Safety south of Berlin.
