To ensure the safety of chemical plants it is essential to know the detonatability in gas mixtures and in systems of the type organic liquid/gaseous oxidizer. The latter system exists for example in oxidation processes in reactors for gas-liquid reactions. From the safety standpoint the significantly different explosion behaviour of such a heterogeneous system from the one of the pure gas phase has to be considered. Under specific test conditions detonations may develop in this system although the pure gas phase is below the lower explosion limit.
