Safety related research on the field of gases and gas explosions

Beside the activities in the field of safety characteristics of gases and decomposition of acetylene the working group undertakes research in safety related fields of new gas technologies:

• Hydrogen technology, hydrogen car engines
• Gas phase oxidation reactions in the chemical industry, e. g. with oxygen and nitrous oxide
• Chemical processes with strong reactive but chemical unstable gases, e. g. for manufacturing of plastics and intermediate products
• New energy techniques, e. g. natural gas and biogas techniques

• SAFEKINEX „Safe and Efficient Hydrocarbon Oxidation Processes“

• Explosion characteristics of tetrafluoroethylen
  (sponsored by PlasticsEurope Association)
• Characterization of the decomposition reactions of chemically unstable gases
  (sponsored by BASF AG)
• Stability of mixtures with ethylene oxide under process conditions
  (sponsored by Cognis Deutschland GmbH & Co. KG)
• Safety-related studies on hydrogen production in high-pressure electrolysers
  (Cooperation with the Jülich Research Center)

High-pressure hydrogen can be produced directly by help of this technology. The energy-consuming compression of the hydrogen is not needed.
