Working group
The working group gives advice regarding safety engineering for acetylene generation and filling plants, acetylene plants for welding cutting and allied processes as well as plants for the chemical processing of acetylene. In addition specific plant designs and reasons of accidents may be assessed in an expert's report.
The working group conducts experiments in order to improve the assessment of hazardous situations and therefore provide a basis for decision-making aids for accident prevention and for corrective actions at accidents with acetylene cylinders. An example is the investigation of the bursting behaviour of acetylene cylinders and acetylene cylinder bundles after initiating acetylene decomposition by a fire at the open air test site.

Impact stability tests of acetylene cylinders using explosives provided information for the safe clearance of accident sites where acetylene cylinders were subjected to mechanical impacts.
