Safety Related Properties of Gases

Classification of gases and gas mixtures according to dangerous goods and dangerous substances regulations

In the working group, safety related properties of gases are experimentally determined and evaluated. Among others,

• flammable (inflammable)
• explosive
• highly oxidizing and
• corrosive (against gas cylinders and valves)
  
  
  

properties of gases are being investigated.

The working group complies with the principles of "Good Laboratory Practice" (GLP). The following methods of investigation are available for the classification of gases and gas mixtures:

• Determination of flammability (combustibility)
  according to EC method A.11, 92/69/EC and ISO 10156
• Determination of the auto ignition temperature of gases
  according to EC method A.15, 92/69/EC
• Determination of the oxidizing potential of gases
  according to ISO 10156
• Determination of the corrosive activity

The working group provides expert reports on safety engineering with regard to production, filling and transport of gas mixtures, related to national, European and international legal provisions.
