Division 1.5
Biochemistry and biotechnology are key technologies of the 21st century. With the classical borders between basic and product-specific research constantly vanishing, a multitude of novel products emerges. The pace and the dimension of the respective economic growth however depend on the public acceptance of the products and legal regulations. Work in the Division 1.5 is thus especially concerned with issues of normative harmonisation and supports attempts to method validation and the traceability and comparability of results by provision of reference materials and methods.
The Division 1.5 works on topics from all areas of bioanalytics:
The aim is to achieve quantitative results with a defined uncertainty of measurement.
The Division 1.5 collaborates with industrial partners (e.g., SMEs), especially in the fields of pharmaceuticals and diagnostics, food and agricultural production as well as water and environmental analysis, and cooperates with national and international, academic and non-academic research institutions. Staff members of the Division teach at academic institutions in Berlin.
