Our areas of expertise

The main focus of the group is research and development, appliance and controlling of quality assuring methods for the analysis of solids, powders, suspensions, and aerosols by optical spectroscopic methods. The area of expertise includes laser induced breakdown spectroscopy (LIBS), Raman spectroscopy and microscopy, as well as near (NIR), middle (MIR) and far (FIR) infrared spectroscopy including the Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR). These methods – alone or combined – provide comprehensive information on material structure and composition. Because of their specificity and readiness, optical spectroscopic methods are widespread process analytical tools.

• LIBS
  • Elemental express-analysis of reference, metallurgic, construction and other materials without preliminary sample preparation
  • Sorting and identification of materials using advanced chemometric methods
  • Developing a routine for standardless elemental analysis
    
    
• FTIR and Raman spectroscopy
  • Characterization of materials: glass, ceramics, stressed materials, carbon and hard material coatings as well as polymers, fibers and composites
  • Characterization of zeolites, catalysts and catalytic reactions
  • Position sensitive identification of substances
  • Quality assurance of IR and Raman spectroscopic measurements and analyses
  • Compilation of an IR and Raman spectra database of polymers, monomers and additives

Equipment

• Three laboratory LIBS spectrometers capable of working under atmospheric, buffer gas and vacuum conditions. The spectrometers are equipped with powerful lasers with scalable harmonics output, broadband high resolution echelle spectrometers, and sensitive CCD and ICCD detectors.
• Routine FTIR spectrometer equipped with IR microscope and ATR unit
• High resolution FTIR spectrometer covering 12.000–50 cm^–1 equipped with InSb and diverse DTGS detectors as well as a Raman module
• XY laser Raman spectrometer equipped with triple monochromator and CCD detector
• Sensitive Raman microscope for characterization of small objects
