Fire test with puppets
365 places – and the BAM test site in Horstwalde is one of them. These are not geographical or political places: these are ideas which have been selected for the series event "365 places". "A selected place in a country of ideas is anywhere where future-oriented ideas are being developed, promoted and actively implemented" – says the organiser. Every day a different company, research institute, an artistic or a cultural facility, a school, university, a social facility or an initiative will present itself.
The jury’s selection criteria are strict: The idea or the project should be unique and committed to the public interest, and must be sustainable in terms of ecology, economics or social issues.
For 2009 there were over 2000 applications and 365 have been finally selected.
09.09.09 –BAM’s day in the country of ideas
09.09.09 – this was the day for BAM in the country of ideas. On this day we opened the BAM Test Site Technical Safety (BAM TTS) in Horstwalde near Berlin to our visitors. The 12-km2 area accommodate various safety tests: explosions, fire tests and drop tests with containers of several tons falling onto a concrete slab. These tests must be carried out so that dangerous materials, which we would not like be without in our modern life, may be safely transported, stored or handled.
Safety in technology is a great advantage for our industry in international competition. In order to maintain this safety standard at the highest level, we need extensive research, modern test methods and test facilities and above all else: people with ideas. Everyone could see on 09.09.09 how we provide safety in technology using these ideas.
