The BAM Federal Institute for Materials Research and Testing has provisionally completed the investigation of the defective wheel axle set of the ICE train accident of 9 July 2008.
The results obtained so far were verbally presented to the Public Prosecutor's Office in Cologne in September. In a further discussion, BAM updated the Federal Railway Authority and the German Railway about the situation, in the presence of the Public Prosecutor's Office.
The Cologne Public Prosecutor's Office provided another wheel axle set to BAM in October. This wheel axle set is currently being tested using relevant methods. A written expert opinion will only be provided to the Cologne Public Prosecutor's Office after completion of all necessary work.
While an investigation is ongoing, no information is provided by BAM to the public.
