BAM Press release No 12/2007 of 31 May 2007

Apply for the German material efficiency prize now!

Federal Minister for Economic Affairs Michael Glos gives an award for the best ideas for economical handling of materials

Once again, the Federal Ministry for Economics and Technology (BMWi) will award the German material efficiency prize to enterprises that are exemplars in increasing their own material efficiency or those of their customers. Small and medium-size enterprises can apply up to 30th September 2007 for the five prizes of 10,000 euro. The prize awards will take place on 5th December 2007 at the EuroMold - World Fair for Moldmaking and Tooling, Design and Application Development in Frankfurt/Main.

Interested persons can find all documents and application criteria at www.materialeffizienz.de.

The competition is open to all small and medium-size enterprises, which are based in Germany, and their annual turnover is a maximum of 125 million Euro. Such SME’s should apply that have implemented innovations which clearly demonstrate reduced and profitable material use and re-use.

In view of rising raw material and energy prices, the efficient handling of materials is a great challenge and opportunity for the German economy. Material efficiency combines cost advantages for enterprises with ecological advantages through the conservation of natural resources. Thus there will only be winners if material efficiency increases in enterprises can be demonstrated.

As in previous years, the Federal Institute for Materials Research and Testing (BAM) in Berlin has been commissioned to organize the German material efficiency prize.
