The Pipeline Commission (Ausschuss für Rohrfernleitungen - AfR) is an advisory commission set up pursuant to Art. 9 of the Federal Pipeline Ordinance under the Federal Ministry for Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety (BMU). The constituent and first meeting of AfR took place at 25 / 26 October 2005 in Berlin. AfR comprises 13 members, who are representatives of Federal Authorities, pipeline operation companies, associations of manufacturing and other companies and independent expert organisations. AfR advises BMU on issues of the safe transport of hazardous substances in pipelines and proposes regulations with state-of-the-art technologies. The office of AfR is located at the Federal Institute for Materials Research and Testing, Division 3.2.
